4. Archeology confirms the truth of the Bible The famous “Cyrus Cylinder”, an archeological find, discovered in 1879; confirms history and the Bible. Cyrus explains how he lets the nations go free to their own lands and worship their own “gods” and he gives them freedom of religion in his empire. Iranians are rightly proud of Cyrus’ kindness and noble leadership and his declaration on this cylinder is popularly called, “the first charter of human rights”. Cyrus, as a “shepherd” and “anointed one” was a physical savior for the Jews in freeing them from the Babylonians, and a symbol of another “anointed one” to come and who would be a spiritual savior from sin, Jesus Christ. In Isaiah 44:28, and in Isaiah 45:1, the prophet names Cyrus as the King of Persia, the one that God raised up to be a “shepherd” to guide and perform all my desire” in allowing the Jews who were held captive by Babylon for 70 years (Jeremiah 25:11-12; Jeremiah 29:10-13), and rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem and then this eventually leading to the rebuilding of the city of Jerusalem. Cyrus is also called “the anointed one” in Isaiah 45:1, in order to physically save the Jews and punish the king and kingdom of Babylon . In that same context, in Isaiah 45:22, he says, “Turn to Me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.” The God of the Bible offers His salvation to all nations and peoples and languages and cultures. Revelation 5:9 – “some from every people and nation and tribe and tongue are redeemed by the blood of the lamb.” The lamb of God is Jesus Christ, Essaye Massih. John the Baptist said of Him in John 1:29, “Behold, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” |

1. Iran in the Bible: A Celebration of No Ruz “One way to celebrate “No Ruz” (The Iranian New Year, first day of spring, March 21), is to see where Iranians are in the Bible. Many Iranians have commented to me over the years – “It is so interesting that the Bible has some of our ancient Persian culture and history in it; yet the Qur’an says nothing about us.” |

| "in the future after 483 years ("seventy sevens" = "seventy periods of seven years"= 490 years), but after "sixty nine periods of seven years," "the Messiah will appear." From the famous decrees of the Persian Kings, Cyrus (536 or 538-539 BC,) Darius (Ezra 6, to complete the re-building of the temple), and Artaxerxes two decrees (457 BC, or 444 BC), Artaxerxes decree to rebuild the city is the one most likely to be what Daniel is referring to in Daniel 9:25, "from the | Pasargad (Farsi) - the place of the coronation of ancient Iranian kings. | 5. This place was originally built by Darius the Great, and later improved upon by Xerxes. | |

of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem"; the appearance of the Mesiah
could be his brith, but most likely it is His annointing by the Hold Spirit,
(Matthew 3:13-17) marking the beginning of His ministry around 26 AD. (483
years after the decree of 457 BC, Artaxerxes decree in the book of Nehemiah.)
"In order to forgive sin and take away guilt", (Daniel 9:24) He will then
be "cut off" (He will be killed. See Isaiah 53:1-12, expecially verse 8,
"He will be cut off out of the land of the living". ("cut off" is the same
Hebrew word in Daniel 9:26) "He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell
upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed." Isaiah 53:5 "All of us like
sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; But the "the city and the holp place will be destroyed" (Daniel 9:26) Stan Telchin, who is a Jewish man, and now a believer in Jesus the Messiah, in his book, "Betrayed" and in his testimony speeches, said, in essence: "When I read that the sacrifice of the Messiah came first, then the temple was destroyed, and this is the order in history; namely that Jesus of Nazareth was first crucified on a Roman cross under Herod and Pontus Pilate around 30 AD, and then the Romans destroyed the Jewish temple 40 years later, this confirmed for me that Jesus was the true Messiah prophesied about in the Old Testament." (I am re-calling this from memory of hearing him on the rdio several years ago on d. James Kennedy's radio program, "truths that Transform") Jesus even predicted this in Matthew 24:15: "Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through the prophet Daniel, standing in the hold place (Let the reader understand)." Later, Jesus said "Truly I say to you this generation will not pass away until all these things take place." Matthew 24:34 A generation in Biblical terms and context was 40 years. Jesus is predicting the coming destruction of Jerusalem and the temple 40 years from His death. The Bible is true. Only His second coming awaits fulfillment, "But of that day and hour ("that day", meaning His physical, personal return), no one kinows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone." (Matthew 24:36) |

(Matthew 2:9) These Iranian Magi came to worship Jesus Christ as the King of Kings. (Matthew 2:1-2, 11). The bowed down and worshiped and gave their precious and valuable gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. They recognized that Jesus was "the word of God" (Kalamat 'allah), "God in the flesh" (John 1:1-5, 14). Their lives were changed. They returned to Iran by a different road because they suffered persecution, as Herod was out to get them. | ||

We conclude our "No Ruz" celebration with some words about the Iranian New Year decorations. "Haft seen" means "seven thiungs that begin with the letter "seen", in the Farsi language. They are usually: Seeb = apple Sabzeh = green lentils or wheat germs Sekeh = coin Seer = garlic Serkeh = vinegar Sonbol = hyacinth flower Sanjed = wild olive If a hyacyinth flower is difficult to obtain, Samanoo is another item that is used instead. Samanoo is a malt wheat mixed with flour paste. Usually, traditional and religious Iranians have the Qur' an out on the table with the "haft seen" decorations. But many secular and western Iranians prefer putting the books of poetry of Hafez instead of the Qur' an. Many Iranian Muslims have turned to Jesus Christ as their Savior, and they put the Injeel (The yellow book underthe paper in Farsi in the picture) or the Bible with their Haft seen decorations. The above picture highlights the Seeb (apples) with a verse from Galatians 5:22-23, "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, Kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control." Also, John 15:8, "by this is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be My desciples." The green lentils or grass like decorations reminds of the peace and care tht God gives us if we have a Spiritual relationship with Him and walk with Him. |
